Below ₹1 cr, placement is a rough estimate — the source data models the ₹1 cr+ tail in detail, not the broad base.

Adults are age 20+. Sources and method are set out below.
Where these numbers come from
Sources
Band populations are compiled from the UBS Global Wealth Report (2025/26), the Knight Frank Wealth Report and the Forbes Billionaires list, covering adults aged 20+. USD equivalents use ₹96.5 to $1 (RBI reference rate, approx. July 2026) — a moving rate frozen for legibility, so dollar figures drift as the rupee does.
How a placement is worked out
The published data is coarse — eleven wealth bands. Between the band edges we interpolate with a piecewise power law (Pareto): wealth tails are close to log-log linear, so a net worth between two anchors is placed along that curve rather than snapped to a band edge. Above the top anchor we extend the last segment's slope. Below ₹1 crore the source data has no sub-band structure at all, so placements there are a rough interpolation and should be read as "somewhere in this region", not a percentile.
What this is not
It is not a census. Wealth distributions are modelled estimates built from surveys, rich lists and national balance sheets; the very top bands are order-of-magnitude at best, unreported and offshore wealth is by definition missing, and different reports disagree with each other by wide margins. Treat every figure here as indicative — good for a sense of scale, not for any decision that matters.
